Mississippi Mother Alleges Harm to Son

Several health care providers are being sued by a Mississippi woman who alleges they caused harm to her son.

The child, identified as TDG, was a patient at Longleaf Hospital and diagnosed with intermittent explosive disorder. His mother, Barbara Jeane Gaines of Natchez, says that on August 23, 2015, her son was involved in an altercation with another patient.

The lawsuit alleges that staff removed TDG from the situation and took him to his room. TDG was struck in the torso and head by Keith Newman, a technician at the hospital, and another employee. TDG suffered black eyes and a laceration to his nose.

Gaines is alleging that the hospital did not properly train or supervise its employees. She is also alleging that the hospital failed to properly care for her son’s mental health and that both Newman and another employee abused her child.

Gaines is seeking a trial by jury, compensation for damages, and costs and relief that is deemed appropriate and necessary by the court. She is being represented by Brett L. Grayson.

Named in the lawsuit are Crossroads Regional Hospital LLC, Acadia Healthcare Company, Inc. and Keith Newman. The suit alleges negligence, assault and battery.
