Delfino Cuautle’s attorney said, in part, “On September 22, 2015, Delfino Cuautle joined a series of patients victimized and disabled by the medical malpractice and mismanagement plaguing Coney Island Hospital.”
According to the filing, Cuautle, 46, had gotten off of work in Coney Island when he was struck by a car just after 6 a.m. Emergency medical responders arrived on scene within three minutes and rushed the father of three to Coney Island Hospital. Within 60 minutes, doctors determined that Cuautle’s right leg contained no blood.
A CT scan showed that immediate surgery was needed to save the leg.
Doctors at Coney Island Hospital called Kings County Hospital for a vascular surgeon. Their phone calls went unanswered, forcing doctors to leave messages. It wasn’t until 2 p.m. that Cuautle was transferred to Kings County Hospital for surgery. Because his CT scans were not sent along with him, another scan had to be performed at Kings County Hospital, further delaying surgery.
Cuautle was finally operated on just after 7 p.m. and it was determined that his leg could not be saved.
